A style pointer from The Guv’nor in Royal Wedding Week…
“Amidst all the brouhaha about who is going to wear a morning coat to the Royal Wedding and who is not, I have one small style correction for The Times online:
A morning coat is a morning coat, not tails. Tails are completely different. They are cut differently, they look like tails, not morning coats. Tails are for white tie.
The only people that call morning coats tails are Etonians, present ones or old ones. Morning coats are not for the evening – tails are… unless you are at Eton.
Top Hat and Tails means evening.
But then again, maybe the people at The Times all went to Eton.
That is all.”
