A British Classic

The world premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral, staged right here in London back in 1994, is remembered principally for Elizabeth Hurley’s appearance in a Gianni Versace creation that Fleet Street’s finest eventually dubbed “that dress” – a uniquely British journalistic mix of the clammy and the coy.


The costume budget for the movie itself was a different matter, reflecting the shoe string nature of the film that went on to become the most successful British flick of all time. The Scottish wedding scene (not filmed in Scotland: the budget wouldn’t stretch) features extras dressed in suits from their own personal wardrobes.
