Royal Legend of Speed

Back in April, at the end of The Wedding day, when the Duke of Cambridge chauffeured The Missus back to Clarence House in pater’s Aston Martin, our minds here at The Hornet drifted back in time to another royal house entirely.

Prince Bira of Siam – who raced under the name of B. Bira – was, among many other things, a racing driver in the pre-war era. He drove for both Maserati and Mercedes, and raced competitively in Formula One at circuits all across the globe – including dear old Crystal Palace in southeast London.

We are firmly of the mind that Princes of all Royal Houses would do well to follow his example: it is more becoming for a Prince to be seen in the cockpit of a racing car than in the gossip columns of our more tawdry newspapers.
