Off To The Races!

It’s June and that can only mean one thing.

Ascot.

In our Off to the Races series we’ll round up some tales from Ascot history alongside a few style tips.

No.1: And They’re Off!

Back in 1711, whilst on a carriage ride through the woods near Windsor, Queen Anne spotted a clearing – a clearing, she believed, that would make a perfect spot for horse racing.

Ascot was born.

The Queen was a keen follower of equestrian sports, although not a noted horsewoman. This last must have come as a great relief to the nags of 18th Century England, given that Her Maj was – ‘ow you say? – a rather big boned lass. Ahem.

The Queen Anne Stakes, one of Ascot’s most prestigious races, is named in the founding monarch’s honour.
