Dandies XI

The Man from the Hornet introduces our semi-regular series on “Dandies” – as inspired by the Player’s cigarette card collection of 1932…

Samuel Pepys was born – the son of a tailor – in 1633. He was always going to be a stylish fellow. Take this entry from his diary…

21st October 1664

“And so to Sir W. Turner’s, and there bought my cloth, coloured, for a suit and cloake, to line with plush the cloak, which will cost me money, but I find that I must go handsomely, whatever it costs me, and the charge will be made up in the fruit it brings.”

Quite so.
