In our Off to the Races series in Royal Ascot Week we’ll round up some tales from Ascot history alongside a few style tips.

 

In the 19th Century the Gold Cup was replaced by the Emperor’s Plate, a prize put up by Tsar Nicholas I on a state visit in 1844. The Crimean war saw an end to this brief tradition.
