Hogmanay at Hornets

Hogmanay Hornets

Happy Hogmanay to all Horneteers.

On This Day, 31st December, in 1759, Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000 year lease at £45 per annum and started brewing Guinness.

In his honour, here’s a New Year classic: The Black Velvet. We’ve taken this recipe from one of our very favourite cocktail books, Eddie Clarke’s Shaking in the 60s, which was published 50 years ago…

Black Velvet

Use long tumbler. Pour in very carefully:

½ Guinness

½ Champagne

NB. When Eddie says “very carefully” he means VERY. Guinness tends to bubble up like Doctor Jekyll’s potion when mixed aggressively so go easy. And have a happy new year!
