Hornets Circular: Goodwood

Being An Announcement of The Guv’nor’s Movements In And Around The Goodwood Revival Festival 2011

Kensington 22 Aug 2011 For Immediate Release: The Guv’nor will be in residence at Goodwood – the great historic motorsport & aviation event – for three days (16-18 September), wearing among other choice clothes, his now famous 1930’s leather motoring coat with a James Dermot cap.

We are selling our range of hats at Goodwood. Trilbys, tweed caps and panamas. We have created the “Goodwood” trilby in brown, a 50’s hat, and of course at a good price. Click HERE to have a look.

The Guv’nor likes Goodwood. It is, he says, a quintessentially English experience. And we know how well disposed The Guv’nor is toward Traditional English Experiences. (Mind you he sheds a tear when he hears the bagpipes, the Welsh singing at the old Cardiff Arms Park or an Irish ballad.)

Goodwood, for The Guv’nor, is the Spitfire, the Vulcan, beautiful old cars and English eccentricity at its genuine best.

The Guv’nor loves going on the road, that’s what Goodwood is to him: a show; an adventure. He looks forward to seeing you there.

Lost In Hampshire

How do I get to Goodwood for a weekend in the country surrounded by vintage cars and the best in classic clobber?

With a map such as this of course:

Just try finding the M3 on this one!

The map comes from the bookcase of The Man From The Hornet. As to which publisher put it out and what date it was published, well those remain a mystery to him as the cover and first few pages disintegrated long ago. It once belonged to his grandfather Willie, a great motoring enthusiast. Much of the book is taken up with tips on how to enjoy the gentle art of motoring, the flora and fauna and the geological makeup (!) of the countryside through which you will be meandering. Changed days!

We’ll share a few of those bygone motoring delights in the continuing run up to Goodwood.

(We’ll also have a map of the Goodwood site soon.)
